DMRC: The first coach of the Delhi Metro train is reserved for women. DMRC said that signage has also been installed on the platform to indicate where the reserved coach usually stops.

Reserved Coaches Fine: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has fined more than 1,900 male passengers for entering train coaches reserved for women. DMRC officials said that if a male passenger enters a coach reserved for women, there is a provision to impose a fine of Rs 250 on him. Data shows that between January and June this year, DMRC has registered a case against 1,906 male passengers for entering women’s coaches.

The highest number of 443 challans were issued in May. 419 challans were issued in April, 408 in February, 270 in March, 245 in January and 121 in June. DMRC Chief Executive Director Anuj Dayal told The Hindu that Delhi Metro regularly penalizes male passengers entering coaches reserved for women. Apart from this, many other awareness initiatives are also taken to make male passengers aware about this issue. In this regard, announcements are made inside the trains from time to time and campaigns are run on official social media handles. Special campaigns are also run by DMRC to prevent such incidents.”

Special team deployed

The first coach of the Delhi Metro train is reserved for women. DMRC said that signage has also been installed on the platform to indicate where the reserved coach usually stops. Every coach has reserved seats for women. Quick response teams have been deployed and special campaigns are being conducted to check male passengers traveling in women’s coaches.

Earlier in September 2023, Delhi Metro had launched a special campaign to prevent the entry of male passengers in coaches reserved for women. This campaign was jointly run by DMRC, CISF and DMRP from 6 pm to 10 pm on all lines of the network for 10 days till September 10. DMRC has 288 stations on 12 lines including Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line and Rapid Metro Gurugram. The total length of the network is 393 km.
