Metro Station New Service: With the extension of the Green Line Metro from Indralok to Indraprastha, New Delhi Metro Station is going to achieve a major milestone. After Kashmiri Gate, this will be the second station of Delhi Metro where triple interchange facility will be available.
Metro Station New Service: With the extension of Green Line from Indralok to Indraprastha, New Delhi Metro station is all set to emerge as a triple interchange facility (facility of changing metro trains on three lines), officials said. They said the 12.37 km long Indralok-Indraprastha corridor is an extension of the already operational Brig. Hoshiar Singh-Indralok Green Line corridor (28.78 km). Officials said this new extension will expand New Delhi station as an ‘interchange facility’ where three lines (Yellow, Orange and now Green Line) will meet each other. They said this will boost ‘connectivity’ for the entire city as now passengers coming from Bahadurgarh as well as parts of West Delhi like Nangloi, Rajdhani Park, Udyog Nagar etc. will be able to reach New Delhi Railway Station directly.
He said this will make it more convenient to reach New Delhi station and help reduce congestion near the station as more people will prefer to travel by metro than by road.
Like the existing New Delhi station, the new extension of the Green Line will also be underground. Currently, Kashmiri Gate is the only triple interchange station in the Delhi Metro network where Yellow, Red and Violet lines meet. He said after Phase 4, three more stations (Lajpat Nagar, Azadpur and New Delhi) will also emerge as triple interchange facilities.
Officials said that currently about 86 km of new lines are being constructed under the fourth phase expansion of Delhi Metro.
