MG Comet EV Launched in India: This is the cheapest, smallest and entry level electric car of MG. It is also about 50 thousand rupees cheaper than Tata’s Tiago. Its production has started at the Halol plant in Gujarat.

The MG Comet EV test drives will begin tomorrow, i.e. April 27. While the MG Comet EV bookings will start on May 15, the MG Comet EV deliveries will commence from May in select markets.

MG Comet EV Price

“The price of the MG Comet EV has been announced. A bit steeper than I expected, but is it low enough for getting monthly sales of 3,000 units? If it does, then many other manufacturers will look at jumping onto the micro mini EV bandwagon,” said Yogendra Pratap, Editor, Auto Today.

MG Comet EV Features

Do not go by the size of this electric car. It packs in a lot of features. The exteriors boast LED headlamps and taillamps, illuminated MG logo (front), front and rear connecting lights, LED turn indicators on ORVMs and 12-inch wheels. The car has dual-tone space grey interiors with features like leather-wrapped steering wheel, fabric seat upholstery and 50:50 rear split seats.

Like all other MG cars, the Comet EV also scores high on smart-tech features. It gets a fully-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, front power windows, one-touch slide and recline passenger seat for second-row entry, keyless entry, tilt steering and manual AC. There are as many as 3 USB fast-charging ports along with a 12V power outlet at the front. Besides, the Comet EV is a connected car with i-Smart technology offering over 55 features.

The Comet EV is based on SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform. It uses a high-strength body with 17 hot stamping panels. Its battery is IP67-rated, being resistant to water and dust. The important safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (indirect), three-point seat belts for all passengers, ISOFIX rear child seat anchors and impact sensing door unlock.

The design of the MG Comet EV is based on what the company is calling BICO concept. This essentially means big inside and compact outside.

The electric car is 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width and 1,640mm in height. It has a 2,010mm long wheelbase. These dimensions might not seem very generous, but the Comet EV can easily accommodate four individuals, including the driver, even if they are six feet tall.

The vehicle employs a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which delivers 42PS of maximum power and 110Nm of peak twisting force. It is mated to a 17.3kWh lithium-ion battery. The claimed MG Comet EV range on a single full charge is 230km (ARAI). In real-world conditions, 170-180km is what we are expecting.

The charging time for the battery is 7 hours for 0-100% and 5 hours for 10-80% on a single full charge using a 3.3kW charger. There are three drive modes and as many regen modes.

MG Comet EV Other Details

MG claimed that the charging cost for the Comet EV can be as low as Rs 519 per 1,000km.
