In a meeting with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in January, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had suggested increasing the wages of MNREGA workers.
More than 234 crore man days have been created in the last eight years. In the financial year 2024-25, a target was set to create 26 crore man days, while during this period 32.89 crore man days were created. Out of these, 13 crore man days were created for women. The central government has issued a notification and announced an increase in the rates of MNREGA for the financial year 2025-26. The wages of MNREGA workers will increase by Rs 15 per day. MNREGA workers will now be paid Rs 252 per day. Earlier, Rs 237 was paid per day.
Gram Vikas Aayukt GS Priyadarshi said that at present there are 1 crore 10 lakh active MNREGA job card holder labourers in Uttar Pradesh. In the meeting held in January, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had also suggested increasing the cost of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) to Rs 2 lakh and increasing the kitchen unit in the houses. After this, MNREGA wages have increased.
