According to ministry sources, offline sales of mobile phones and gadgets are closed in lockdown so online sale of these items is not allowed so that offline traders do not suffer business loss. At the same time, e-commerce companies have been allowed to sell only essential commodities.
New Delhi: Working from home in lockdown increases the need for items such as mobile phones, laptops. But during this time if your mobile phone or laptop is damaged then you will have to wait for the lockdown to open for new mobile phone and laptop. The reason for this is that on the one hand the government is involved in promoting Digital India and on the other hand, considers mobile phones, laptops and other electronics gadgets as non-essential items.
These days many states of the country are under lockdown and mobile shops cannot be done offline due to the closure of retail shops in those states. At the same time, e-commerce companies have been allowed to sell only essential commodities. Therefore, mobile phones or laptops cannot be purchased online. Due to the second wave of Corona, the lockdown has been going on in Delhi for the last three weeks, then in Maharashtra before that. Lockdown has also started in many other states.
According to e-commerce companies, in states with lockdown they are not allowed to sell any gadgets, including mobile phones, so they are not taking orders. According to ministry sources, offline sales of mobile phones and gadgets are closed in the lockdown, so online sales of these items have not been allowed so that offline traders do not suffer business loss.
Vinod Sharma, chairman of CII’s National ICTE Manufacturing Committee, said that they have demanded the government to include mobile phones in the list of essential items so that mobile phones can be purchased even during lockdown. In view of the increasing trend of work from home, mobiles and laptops have now become essential items. He said that during the lockdown, there was a drop in overall sales due to the shutdown of mobile phones and gadgets both offline and online. According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry sources, at present, which item is to be included in the category of essential and non-essential items, it depends on the states. But later mobile phones can be considered to be included in the category of essential items. According to estimates by industrial organizations, the number of smartphone users in India will be 76 crore this year.
