Telecom Act 2023: The new rule may come into effect for crores of telecom users of India from September 15. After this the rules of using mobile will change. Telecom regulator TRAI has given recommendation for this to the Department of Telecommunications i.e. DoT. The Department of Telecommunications may implement the new Telecom Act after the Lok Sabha elections. It will be implemented in the name of Telecom Act 2023. According to the reports coming out, this rule for telecom services can be implemented after 100 days of the formation of the new government.

New rules will come into effect from September 15!

The results of Lok Sabha elections 2024 will come on June 4, after which the picture of the new government will be clear. There is talk of implementing this new rule 100 days after the formation of the new government, i.e. by 15th September. In the new rule, provisions have been made from collecting user data by telecom companies and intermediary companies to auctioning spectrum for satellite internet service etc.

TRAI has given recommendations to the Department of Telecommunications regarding the auction of spectrum for satellite internet service, in which it has been told how the spectrum will be allocated to satellite companies.

Telecom Act 2023

The most important thing in the Telecom Act 2023 is that now biometric identification will become mandatory for getting a new connection. It is clear in the new rule that without any biometric verification, telecom companies will not be able to issue new numbers to the users. Due to this, issuing of fake SIM cards and cyber fraud etc. will be curbed.

Apart from this, clear rules have also been made for telecom companies and internet service providers as well as intermediary companies to collect user data so that user’s personal data cannot be misused. According to the report, 35 to 37 new provisions have been added in the new Telecom Act, which have been added keeping in mind the changing environment and technology.

Talking about the allocation of satellite spectrum, according to the recommendation given by TRAI to the Department of Telecommunications, spectrum will be allotted only to those satellite companies which will provide point-to-point connections. Satellite spectrum will not be allotted to those companies which provide direct retail services to customers.

It will be allotted in an administrative manner. Due to this, satellite companies could not take direct profits and telecom companies also did not face any problem. To start satellite internet service in India, spectrum will have to be purchased from the government. Only after this any company can launch satellite internet in India.
