Modi government preparing to give a big gift, 43 crore account holders will benefit

The Narendra Modi government at the Center is considering giving life insurance and accident cover to Jan-Dhan account holders. The government wants to provide insurance cover under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima (PMSBY). “Banks have already been informed about this,” said a statement issued by the Finance Ministry on Saturday. 43 crore Jan-Dhan account holders are expected to get the benefit of this move of the government.

Rs 342 Premium: Under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti (PMJJBY), life insurance of Rs 2 lakh is available on a premium of less than Re 1 per day. A premium of Rs 330 has to be paid annually. At the same time, the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima (PMSBY) scheme covers accidental risks. This plan provides cover for accidental death and total disability up to Rs 2 lakh. Apart from this, for partial disability, Rs 1 lakh is available. For this, a premium of Rs 12 has to be paid annually. This means to say that Jan Dhan account holders will get insurance up to Rs 4 lakh in an expenditure of Rs 342.

More than 43 crore account holders: The number of bank account holders under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has increased to more than 43 crore. At the same time, the amount deposited in these accounts has crossed Rs 1.46 lakh crore. Let us tell you that PMJDY was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2014. Also, it was launched on August 28 to promote financial inclusion. Seven years have been completed today i.e. on 28 August 2021.

23.87 crore women account holders: According to the Ministry of Finance, the total number of Jan-Dhan account holders in semi-urban and rural areas has increased to 43.04 crore as of August 18, 2021. Of this, 55.47 percent or 23.87 crore account holders are women and 66.69 percent or 28.70 crore account holders are men. According to the ministry, 17.90 crore Jan-Dhan accounts were opened in the first year of this scheme.
