Vande Bharat Metro: Mumbai local trains, which are called the lifeline of Mumbai city, will soon become history. A senior official of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation -MRVC) said that the Railway Board has approved the purchase of 238 Vande Bharat Metro trains . This is a major step towards upgrading the suburban railway network. An MRVC spokesperson said that these rakes would be procured under Mumbai Urban Transport Project-III (MUTP-III) and 3A (MUTP-3A). The purchase will come with maintenance requirements to last for 35 years.
He further said that the work of making these trains will be done under the guidelines of Make India. This project is being run by the Ministry of Railways and the Government of Maharashtra to increase the capacity of the train network. MRVC spokesperson further informed that the MUTP-III and MUTP-3A projects are worth Rs 10,947 crore and Rs 33,690 crore respectively.

This train will be ready by December. This train will run 4-5 times a day on the same route. Like a metro train, it will have 8 coaches. Normal Vande Bharat trains have 16 coaches. This train will provide rapid shuttle like experience to the passengers. With this, working people and students will be able to travel from one city to another in less time. They will be able to take advantage of world class transport facility.
