Mumbai Rains: Heavy rain likely in Mumbai for next 4 days, IMD issues red alert

Rainfall in Mumbai: The country’s financial capital received heavy rains as soon as the southwest monsoon arrived in Mumbai. This year’s first rain of the monsoon season flooded several areas of Mumbai and the traffic police had to close four subways. There are reports of water logging in some low-lying areas, due to which train services were disrupted. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that there may be heavy rains in Mumbai for the next four days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai on Wednesday and a yellow alert for the next four days. IMD Mumbai scientist Shubhangi Bhute said that the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow and red alert for some districts of Konkan Kinnarpatti (coastal belt). He said that a red alert has been issued for Mumbai today and a yellow alert for the next four days. Konkan Kinnarpatti including Mumbai may receive heavy to very heavy rains for the next 4 days.

IMD Mumbai said in its forecast at 2.30 pm that as per the latest satellite data, moderate to heavy rains (two-three cm per hour) are likely over Mumbai city and suburbs in the next three-four days. There is also a possibility of lightning and thunder at some places. Local train services were disrupted due to rain. Water logging has occurred between Sion and Chunabhatti stations of Central Railway. Local train services were suspended between CSMT and Kurla at 9.50 am.

According to the Meteorological Department, western suburb Santa Cruz received 164.8 mm of rain in the six hours from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm, while Colaba in south Mumbai received 32.2 mm. Rain was recorded. Amid waterlogging at many places due to heavy rains in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the administration to make arrangements to drain water from these areas and restore traffic at the earliest.
