Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that water taxis will start operating in Mumbai from May 2021. At the same time, 4 new routes for ROPAX Ferry will start at the end of this year i.e. December. Water taxis will operate on 12 routes. Mansukh Mandavia said that with the introduction of water taxi and Ropax Ferry, people will get a lot of convenience in movement and their time as well as fare will also be saved.
Apart from Mansukh Mandavia, Chairperson of Mumbai Port and officials of Maharashtra Maritime Board and others attended the meeting convened to drive water taxi. Let us tell you that RoRo Passenger Ferry service is already running between Mandwa near Mumbai and Alibaug, due to which more than 20,000 vehicles have been transported so far.
In the first 20 weeks of the commencement of this RoRo Passenger Ferry service, more than 1 lakh people had traveled from it. With this service, the travel time between Mumbai and Mandwa was reduced from 3 hours to 45 minutes. Mansukh Mandavia said that with the commencement of this service the journey of 70 km distance between Mumbai and Rewas will be completed in just 15 minutes, which now takes 1.5 hours.
