The medical staff has now joined the public in these protests. Employees of medical departments working in 70 hospitals in 30 cities have stopped their work on Wednesday in protest against the coup.
The group opposing the coup has said in a statement that the military has imposed its interests on a vulnerable population facing hardships during the Corona virus epidemic. The Corona virus has killed more than 3,100 people in Myanmar so far. The group said in a statement, ‘We refuse to obey any order of illegitimate military rule. This shows that the army has no respect for our poor patients.
A 29-year-old doctor from Yangon told Reuters, ‘I want the soldiers to go back to their places, so we doctors are not going to hospitals. I do not have a time limit as to how long I will continue this strike. it depends on the situation. Students and youth groups have also joined the campaign.
Explain that the army captured power on Monday. Several top leaders, including the country’s supreme leader Aung San Suu Kyi and President Vin Myint, were detained. At the same time, a year of emergency has been imposed in the country to strengthen its hold on power. In November last year, Aung San’s National League for Democracy (NLD) won with an overwhelming majority in the general election held in Myanmar. The army refused to accept the results by making allegations of rigging.
