If two or more students get the same marks in the exam, who will be placed higher in the merit is decided by the tie breaking policy. In the notification, NTA had mentioned 7 rules in the tie breaking policy but at the time of the result, NTA has mentioned 8 rules. Candidates are angry due to the addition of a new provision of application number in the 8th rule. The student who filled the application form first has been allotted the counseling rank first. The one who filled the form first will benefit in the race for MBBS, BDS admission. Candidates say that NTA did not include the 8th rule in its NEET Information Bulletin. If they had known about it earlier, they would have applied first.

What was the tie breaking policy of NEET in the notification

According to the notification, if students get equal marks, then their Biology marks will be looked at first to decide their rank. The one who gets more marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be placed higher in the rank. If this does not decide, then the marks of Chemistry and then Physics will be compared.

NEET Tie Breaking Formula 2024 (7 parameters which were in the notification)

1- The candidate who scores more marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be placed higher in the rank.

2- If the rank is not decided by the factor of Biology, then the marks of Chemistry will be considered. The candidate who scores more marks in Chemistry will be placed higher in the rank.

3- After this, the marks of Physics will be considered. The candidate who scores more marks in Physics will be placed higher in the rank.

4- The candidate who has given less wrong answers than the correct answers will be placed higher.

5- After this, the candidate who has less ratio of attempted wrong answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be placed higher.

6- After this, the candidate who has less ratio of attempted wrong answers and correct answers in Chemistry will be placed higher.

7- After this, the candidate who has lower ratio of wrong attempted answers and correct answers in Physics will be placed higher.

There were only the above 7 conditions in the notification but at the time of the result, NTA has added a new 8th rule in the tie breaking policy. The 8th rule says that if the decision is not made even by the above methods, then the application number in ascending order is made the basis. That is, the one who filled the form first is placed higher in the merit. The candidate who scores equal marks and whose application number comes first will be placed higher in the counseling rank. The student who filled the form first has been allotted the first counseling rank. This provision of application number has been added by NTA at the time of NEET result.
