NEET UG, PG: Government gave good news to NEET UG, PG students, bumper increase in MBBS seats.

NEET UG, PG: The central government has said that MBBS seats have increased to 1,18,190 and medical PG seats have increased to 74,306.

NEET UG, MBBS Seats In India: The central government has great news for NEET UG and PG candidates. The government has said that the number of MBBS seats in the country has increased to 1,18,190 and medical PG seats have increased to 74,306. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel gave this information in Parliament. Let us tell you that in the budget presented on February 1, 2025, the government had announced to add 75000 new medical seats in the next 5 years. The government has started working fast on this scheme.

The government was asked whether the government has decided to increase 75000 medical seats in medical colleges in the next 5 years, if yes, then what is the details of the plan and will this increase be done by opening new medical colleges, increasing the capacity of existing colleges or both? In response to this question, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that increasing medical seats is a continuous process. The government has taken several measures to increase the number of medical colleges, after which medical seats have increased. The number of medical colleges has now increased to 780 with an increase of 101.5 percent from 387 before 2014. Apart from this, the number of MBBS seats has now increased to 1,18,190 with an increase of 130% from 51,348 before 2014. PG seats have also increased by 138 percent which has increased from 31,185 before 2014 to 74,306 now. A total of 13,436 medical seats have been added during the academic year 2024-25.

The minister said, ‘The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also operates a centrally sponsored scheme for upgradation of existing government medical colleges to increase MBBS seats. Under this scheme, assistance is given for civil works, devices and furniture with a cost limit of Rs 1.20 crore per seat to increase MBBS seats in government medical colleges. Which will be borne between the central and state governments in the ratio of 90:10 for the Northeast and special category states and 60:40 for others.

However, only the details of 117950 MBBS seats have been given on the website of the National Medical Commission. But after the details given by the government, it is clear that this time more than 1.18 lakh MBBS seats will be available for admission. The details of updated seats can be put on the NMC website soon. Last year, only about 1.08 lakh MBBS seats were available for NEET UG candidates. But this time, the students will get some relief due to the increase of ten thousand seats.

150 MBBS seats to increase in RML

Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is being expanded to provide better health services to patients. Under this scheme, the number of MBBS seats in the hospital will be increased from 100 to 250, which will give more students the opportunity to get medical education. Apart from this, 666 new beds will be added in the hospital, which will increase the total number of beds from 1532 to 2198.

NEET UG will provide admission in MBBS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMUS, Bachelor of Dental Studies (BDS) and Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH) courses across the country. The NEET exam is proposed on May 4.
