Online content and program broadcasting platform Netflix on Tuesday said it has slashed monthly subscription fee rates by up to 60 per cent for Indian consumers. The company has taken this step to woo the audience amidst increasing competition in the OTT sector in the country. The new rates will be effective from Tuesday. Under these, now Netflix will be available on mobile at the rate of Rs 149 per month, earlier the rate was Rs 199 per month.
Basic plan will now be available at Rs 199 instead of Rs 499 monthly. Standard plan will be available at the rate of Rs 499 per month and premium at Rs 649 per month.
Netflix Vice President Content (India) Monica Shergill told PTI-Bhasha, “We are reducing the rates of all our plans for our customers. This will apply to all types of our services, local and global. The maximum 60 percent reduction has been done in the Basic plan because we want our viewers to watch Netflix, whether it is on the big screen or on any device. Let us tell you that the services of Netflix started in India in 2016.
