Popular video content streaming platform Netflix has decided to make its subscription plans expensive in select countries. After increasing the userbase in the recent past, the platform has changed the price of its existing subscription plans in the US, UK and France and users will have to pay more for it than before.
The company has recently added about 90 lakh new subscribers globally to its platform. Apart from this, the reason for increase in user base is also related to the changes made by it in its password sharing policy. Taking several major steps, Netflix has banned password sharing and has decided that users should not share their accounts with others.
The price of plans has been increased so much
The OTT platform has increased the price of its premium ad-free plan in the US by $3 per month and now users will have to pay $22.99 for it. Apart from this, the price of One-Stream Basic Plan has been increased by $2 per month. This change was welcomed by the company’s investors and its shares went up by more than 10 percent.
Netflix trying to increase revenue
The streaming platform had been trying to increase revenue for a long time and was looking for new ways. Netflix has taken many big steps to increase revenue, especially in America, where it is facing tough competition from Walt Disney, Warner Bros Discovery and other OTT services. The good thing is that even today the platform remains at the second position after YouTube in terms of viewership.
These are the plans of Netflix in India
Netflix is offering 4 plans in the Indian market, which are priced at Rs 149, Rs 199, Rs 499 and Rs 649. All these are monthly plans and come with a validity of 30 days. The Rs 149 mobile plan allows content to be streamed only on mobile devices with quality up to 480p.
Other plans also offer the option of streaming on computers and TVs in addition to mobile devices. The basic plan of Rs 199 offers 720p, the standard plan of Rs 499 offers 1080p and the premium plan of Rs 649 offers 4K+HDR streaming quality.
