On Friday morning, Netflix gave a tremendous blow to its subscribers. Akshay Kumar’s film Sooryavanshi has been streamed on the platform after exactly four weeks after making excellent collections in theatres. This came as a surprise to the subscribers of Netflix, as it was certain that the film would hit the platform, but it was not expected so soon. The platform had not given any official information about the streaming date earlier. However, media reports claimed it to be streamed on 5 December.
Sooryavanshi completed a 4-week journey in theaters on Thursday (December 2). The film was released in theaters on 5th November and these four weeks have done well and collected a net collection of 190 crores at the box office. Apart from Hindi, Sooryavanshi is available on Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and English languages. Akshay Kumar played the role of ATS chief named Veer Suryavanshi in Rohit Shetty directed Sooryavanshi. Ajay Devgan and Ranveer Singh have also made special appearances in their Singham and Simmba characters in the film. There were reports that Netflix has spent 100 crores to acquire the streaming rights of the film.
Akshay’s previous film Bellbottom also released on Amazon Prime Video almost 28 days after the theatrical release. The OTT battle of December 3 has intensified with the arrival of Sooryavanshi on Netflix.
Apart from Suryavanshi, the last part of the last season of the very popular crime series Money Heist is being released on Netflix today. The fans of Money Heist were waiting for the finale episodes. At the same time, Abhishek Bachchan and Chitrangada Singh’s film Bob Biswas is being streamed on Zee5. The film is a spin-off of Sujoy Ghosh’s story. Shah Rukh Khan is its producer. The third season of the web series Inside Edge, popular on Amazon Prime Video, has been streamed. The series stars Vivek Oberoi, Aamir Bashir, Richa Chadha, Sapna Pabbi and Tanuj Virwani in lead roles.
