New Delhi. A big update has come on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. This Greenfield Expressway is likely to start by December. Road Transport Ministry officials have told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that NHAI has set a target to start the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway by December. The link from this expressway to Haridwar will be completed by May 2025. A review meeting was held with the Secretary of the Ministry and the Chief Secretaries of the states regarding the progress of the construction work of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. According to a TOI report, sources said that PM Modi directed the Ministry of Road Transport to complete the expressway without any delay. Apart from this, it is being told that all pending land related matters regarding this expressway have been resolved.
Sources said that in this meeting, NHAI has expressed its commitment to PM Modi to complete the remaining work of the expressway in the next 4 months. However, the reach-control link from the expressway to Haridwar has been added later, so it will take five more months to complete it. Delhi to Dehradun in 2.5 hours, Haridwar in just 2 hours
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is 264 km long. This access-controlled expressway has been designed for a speed of 100 km per hour. With this expressway, the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun will be reduced to 2.5 hours. At the same time, Haridwar can be reached from Delhi in two hours.
The largest wildlife corridor
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Haridwar link are being built at a cost of Rs 14,285 crore. The biggest feature of this road project is that Asia’s longest and highest wildlife corridor (12 km) will be built on it, which will pass through Rajaji National Park. Apart from this, underpasses will also be built for wild animals.
NHAI sources said that the first phase of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, from Akshardham to Eastern Peripheral Expressway interchange, is likely to be operational by November this year, providing relief to the people of Delhi-NCR from the problem of daily traffic jams. The first phase will extend to Geeta Colony, Shastri Park, Sonia Vihar in Delhi and Vijay Vihar, Qasim Vihar and Mandola in Uttar Pradesh, among other areas.
