New Delhi. Air India has made a big announcement for those who love to travel abroad. Now Air India passengers will get a new facility to travel between 12 Indian cities and 26 European cities. For this, Air India has expanded the code sharing agreement with German airline Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss International Airlines. This will provide passengers with more connectivity and easy transfer.

Air India’s new international partnership

Air India announced that it has entered into a new code sharing agreement with Austrian Airlines. Also, existing agreements with Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines have been expanded. The benefit of this agreement will be that passengers will be able to avail the routes of these foreign airlines even by booking Air India flights. This will make travel to Europe and other international destinations even easier.

After this new agreement, the number of code sharing routes between Air India, Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines has increased from 55 to about 100.

Which new routes will be covered?

Under the new code sharing agreement, passengers will be able to travel to 12 major cities in India and 26 cities in Europe.

Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Jaipur.

European cities: Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Geneva, Brussels, Prague, Washington DC, Toronto etc.

Air India’s international flights will be doubled

Air India has planned to double its international flights in the next three years. Currently, Air India operates 313 international flights annually. This will be doubled soon, so that Air India’s presence in the long-haul international market can be strengthened.

Air India’s CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) Nipun Agarwal said, “This partnership will allow our customers to travel to more destinations in Europe on Lufthansa Group flights.”

Efforts to increase dominance in the international market

The number of passengers traveling abroad from India is constantly increasing. In view of this, Indian airlines are also expanding their international network.

  • The share of Indian airlines in international air travel has now increased to 46 per cent.
  • Indian airlines carried 2.4 crore passengers in January-September 2024.
  • Air India (Tata Group) has a 28 per cent share in the aviation market.
  • More than 75 foreign airlines are also transporting passengers from India.
