The government has started the facility of Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) in the country. This means that now whether you are a Jio customer, Airtel or BSNL customer, you will be able to use the tower of any network. Suppose you are in the forest and you have a Jio SIM but there is no Jio network there. Earlier you had to go to the Jio tower to make a call. But now you will be able to make calls using the tower of any other network nearby.
New ICR service: Department of Telecommunications has launched the Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility in the country. This service allows telecommunication service providers to share infrastructure on government-funded mobile towers in the country. This means that Jio, Airtel and BSNL users will be able to access any 4G network and make calls when they are not in the range of their own cellular tower. This service can be accessed with the help of a single DBN funded tower.
What is ICR facility?
In simple terms, suppose you use a Jio SIM, but the area where you are present does not have Jio network, then in such a situation you will be able to make calls using the BSNL or Airtel network present in that area.
What is DBN Service?
DBN is a Digital India Fund, a fund aimed at improving the quality and access to telecommunications services in India. It was created by the Government of India as part of the Telecommunications Act 2023, and was previously known as the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

You will be able to make calls from any network
The ICR facility was announced by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He said that this will be a shared service, with the help of which three telecom operators BSNL, Airtel and Reliance will benefit. Under this facility, connectivity is being offered with about 27,836 sites. This will give freedom of calling to customers in the country.
Good service will be available at low cost
With the launch of ICR, good quality service will be available at a very low cost. It will require fewer cell towers to be installed. This will make 4G service accessible to more and more people. According to the official announcement of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), this service will provide excellent 4G connectivity to more than 35,400 rural and remote villages through about 27,000 towers. Telecom providers will be able to provide good service by installing fewer mobile towers.
