In Phase-4 of Delhi Metro, connectivity of South Delhi will be increased through a new metro line from Tughlakabad to Delhi Aerocity. Tughlakabad will be the first interchange station in this which will have underground parking facility. This Golden Line will connect to Sarita Vihar Depot. The Golden Line is expected to open by 2026.
New Delhi: In Phase-4 of Delhi Metro, the people of South Delhi are getting the gift of a new metro line. This new metro line is being built between Tughlakabad and Delhi Aerocity, which will increase the connectivity of South, South-East and South-West Delhi to IGI Airport and its surrounding areas. Currently, there is an elevated metro station in Tughlakabad on the Metro’s Violet Line built between Kashmiri Gate to Badarpur via Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh) of Haryana. In Phase-4, another underground metro station is being built here and it is being converted into an interchange station. The new Golden Line of the Metro will start from here and go to Aerocity. You will have to walk only 45 meters for interchange.
DMRC claims that after the start of Phase-4, Tughlakabad will emerge as a new hub of Metro in South Delhi and will be seen as an important station in the Metro network. Delhi Metro’s Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said that the new and old stations of Tughlakabad will be connected through a 45 meter long subway. Through this subway, passengers will be able to interchange between the stations of both the lines from the paid area of the station itself. The special thing is that for this they will have to walk less than 50 meters.
First interchange station with underground parking
The entire structure of the new underground metro station being built here will also be very special in itself. A 4-level underground structure is being built here, which will be 23 meters deep from the ground surface. An underground parking is being built on the first level, below which there will be concourse and platform levels. The parking area will be connected to both ground level and concourse. About 250 vehicles can be parked simultaneously in the underground parking being built here. People will be able to park their vehicles here and go directly to the concourse level of both Violet and Golden lines through lift, stairs or escalator and enter the station from there. Tughlakabad will be the first interchange station of Delhi Metro to have underground parking facility, while it will be the second station to have underground parking. Dhansa Bus Stand Metro Station of Grey Line also has underground parking facility, but it is not an interchange station.
It will be directly connected to Sarita Vihar Depot
Since the new Tughlakabad metro station will also be a terminal station of the Golden Line, this station is being directly connected to Sarita Vihar Depot to send the trains running from here to Sarita Vihar Metro Depot for further maintenance. For this, a tunnel is also being built between here and Sarita Vihar Depot, through which trains will be able to go directly to the depot. Along with the Violet Line, the Golden Line trains will also be maintained in this depot. That is, in a way, Sarita Vihar Depot will also become the maintenance hub for trains of two lines simultaneously.
Metro will pass under the busy railway line
The tunneling being done between Tughlakabad Metro Station and Tughlakabad Railway Colony Metro Station will pass right under the Delhi-Palwal section, one of the busiest sections of the Indian Railways. That is, trains will run above and the metro will pass through the tunnel below. The topmost part of the tunnel roof will be at a depth of about 18 meters from the railway line. The outer diameter of the tunnel will be 6.35 meters, in which the inner circle of the tunnel will be prepared by installing concrete segments of 275 mm thickness.
Both the first and last stations will be interchange
15 metro stations will be built on the 23.62 km long Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, out of which 4 will be elevated and 11 will be underground stations. The special thing is that both the terminal stations of this line will be interchange stations, there will be a facility to interchange with the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro at Tughlakabad as well as Aerocity metro stations. Apart from this, passengers will also be able to interchange at Chhatarpur and Saket G Block metro stations. In such a situation, passengers will be able to interchange with Violet, Yellow, Orange line as well as the new metro line being built between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G-Block. The work of building an interchange station at Tughlakabad is going on at a fast pace and so far more than 60 percent of the civil work has been completed. The Golden Line is expected to open by March 2026.
