Work on a metro corridor being built in Phase 4 of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is now in its final stage. Preparations are being made to start metro operations on the Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension corridor in the month of August. If everything goes well, people will be able to travel in the metro on this route after two months. Apart from this, one other priority corridor of Phase 4 will be started next year and the remaining corridors by 2026. DMRC officials claim that by 2026, all three corridors with 65 km of new lines will be opened for passengers.
DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said that the work of Phase-4 in the expansion of the Metro corridor started in December 2019, but due to Corona infection and delay in getting permission to cut trees, the work was affected from 2020 to 2022. Now construction work has been expedited on all three corridors. Civil work on the Majlis Park-Maujpur section is about 80 percent complete. Tunneling work is being done on various parts on the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) and Janakpuri West-R.K. Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) corridors.
Despite the Corona infection and delay in various permissions, the construction of Phase Four section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension has been completed and it is likely to be opened to passengers in August this year.
Waiting for permission to cut trees
The Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor is also likely to open during the next year. Dayal said that permission to cut trees at different places and land acquisition are still awaited, but the project is being monitored at various levels on a day-to-day basis. Efforts are being made at various levels to get permission to cut trees. Two more corridors under Phase Four, Indralok to Indraprastha and Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar, have also been approved recently. The process of land acquisition and other approvals from the concerned authorities has been started.
