Metro Projects 2025 in India: This year, 6 major cities of the country are going to get the gift of metro train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently reviewed the progress of six upcoming metro train projects. During this, he said that they are emerging as one of the preferred public transport systems in the cities. Sources told News18 that PM Modi reviewed the progress of Delhi Metro (Phase IV), Patna Metro (Phase I), Bhopal Metro, Indore Metro, Agra Metro and Kanpur Metro.
Citing the instructions of Prime Minister Modi, the report said, “Given that more and more cities are adopting metro projects as one of the preferred public transport systems. It is advisable to organize workshops to share experiences for those cities. Where projects are under implementation or in the pipeline. So that best practices can be obtained and shortcomings can be learned.”

The Delhi Metro (Phase IV) is currently under implementation, with six new corridors having a total length of about 107 kilometres (km). Prime Minister Modi recently inaugurated a 2.8 km long section of Delhi Metro Phase IV between Janakpuri and Krishna Park costing around Rs 1,200 crore. This is the first phase of Delhi Metro Phase IV to be inaugurated.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the 26.5 km long Rithala-Kundli section of Delhi Metro Phase IV, costing around Rs 6,230 crore. This corridor will connect Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur (Kundli) in Haryana. The Patna Metro is scheduled to be inaugurated later this year. The inaugural route is from Bairia Bus Stand to Janakpuri and Krishna Park. A distance of 6.4 km will be covered on elevated track from the terminal to Malahi Pakadi.
At the same time, Bhopal Metro is also scheduled to be inaugurated this year. A total of 31 km long route has been planned for Bhopal Metro. The 7 km route from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS Bhopal may become operational first by this July. Indore Metro may also become operational early this year. The metro will operate on the highest priority corridor of 5.9 km between Gandhi Nagar station and station number three of the Super Corridor.
Meanwhile, the Agra Metro was operational last year on a 6-km corridor. The entire Agra Metro Phase 1 project, a 14.25-km long line from Sikandra to Taj East Gate, is expected to be operational by 2026. The Kanpur Metro was operational last year on a small corridor. It is now set to be extended from Motijheel to Kanpur Central station. It will connect IIT to Kanpur Central. Trial runs have already been done for the new corridor.
