New Motor Vehicle Act: The number of road accidents in the country is increasing continuously. A major contribution to these accidents is not following the traffic rules. Even after keeping a huge amount of challan by the Government of India, people are seen breaking the traffic rules. To reduce these incidents, the Government of India has now taken a big decision. The Government of India has announced to impose higher fines for breaking traffic rules under the new Motor Vehicle Act. This amount of fine has come into effect from March 1, 2025. The amount of new fine imposed by the government will not only be heavy on your pocket but there is also a provision of jail in it.

Drinking and driving

Earlier, a fine of Rs 1000-1500 was imposed for breaking this traffic rule but now there is a provision of Rs 10,000 and 6 months imprisonment. Apart from this, if the violation is repeated, then a fine of Rs 15000 and 2 years imprisonment is imposed.

Riding without helmet

Earlier, if someone was found riding a bike or scooter without a helmet, a challan of Rs 100 would be issued but now there is a provision of a fine of Rs 1000 along with cancellation of license for 3 months.

Driving a car without wearing a seat belt

The penalty for violating this traffic rule is Rs 100 but now according to the new fine, a challan of Rs 1000 can be issued.

Using mobile phone while driving

If you use a mobile phone while driving, earlier you had to pay a fine of Rs 500 but now under the new rules, the fine has been increased to Rs 5000.

Driving without DL or insurance

If any vehicle is being driven without a valid driving license, then earlier a fine of Rs 500 was imposed but now a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed. Apart from this, earlier the fine for not having valid insurance papers was Rs 200-400 but now it will be Rs 2000 and 3 months jail or community service and a fine of Rs 4000 will be imposed on repeat violation.

Triple riding on two wheeler

If more than 2 people are riding on a two-wheeler, then a fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed for this violation. However, earlier a fine of Rs 100 was imposed for violating this rule.

Driving without pollution certificate

If you are riding or driving without a pollution certificate, now instead of a fine of Rs 1000, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed. Apart from this, there is also a provision of jail up to 6 months and community service.

Dangerous driving, racing and speeding

If a rider is driving dangerously or racing or driving a bike or any other vehicle at high speed, then a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed instead of Rs 500.

Not giving way to an emergency vehicle

If way is not being given to any emergency vehicle like ambulance, then the amount of fine has been increased to Rs. 10000, whereas earlier it was Rs. 1000.

Overloading

The Government of India has imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 2000 for overloading. This fine can be very heavy on people’s pockets.

Jumping signals

If a signal is jumped, a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed now, but earlier the fine was Rs 500.

Violation by juvenile

The fine for violating this rule was Rs 2500 but now it has been increased 10 times to Rs 25000. Apart from this, the penalty is three years in jail, vehicle registration cancelled for one year and driving licence disqualified till the age of 25 years.
