GST News: The central government has issued a notification. This notification is related to your electricity meter and GST.

GST News: A notification (GST News) on GST has been issued by the Central Government. Now GST will not be levied on a total of 17 services related to Electricity Meter. Know about each one in detail.

There is a relief news for electricity consumers. Now GST will not be levied on a total of 17 services like installing electricity meter and increasing load. The central government has also issued a notification regarding this. According to this notification, companies related to power distribution in the country will no longer charge 18 percent GST on such services.

Power distribution companies of states will no longer be able to collect Goods and Services Tax on a total of 17 services. It may be noted that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) had recently issued a clarification to provide relief to electricity consumers.

Power Discoms of states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have started implementing the Centre’s instructions. According to the clarification, power discoms will be able to collect 18% GST only on deposit work.

Whereas GST will no longer be collected from services like disconnection, reconnection, cheque bounce, meter installation, checking, testing, change, load increase, overhead charge etc. It may be noted that most of the state governments have issued guidelines regarding not collecting GST on all 17 services from October 10.
