New PUC Rules in West Bengal: For the last few weeks, the West Bengal Transport Ministry has been tightening the rules for vehicle owners to obtain Pollution Control (PUC) Certificate. To get the new certificates, the Ministry has first implemented geofencing at all the emission testing centers in the state, because the vehicle owners were getting PUC certificates without visiting the testing centres, but due to geofencing, PUC certificates were issued without visiting the centres. can not be done.
According to the news of Times of India, West Bengal Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty has recently announced that to get PUC certificate, the vehicle owners will have to clear that any challan etc. for their vehicle. There should not be any outstanding or pending. According to the new mandate, if any vehicle in the database has outstanding challan or tax, the emission testing center will not issue PUC certificate for that vehicle. According to the ministry, this rule has been brought in to ensure that the process of issuing PUC is transparent and to keep pollution under control. The new rule will come into effect from 1 November 2023.
