Unique Identification Authority of India has announced that no fingerprint and eye scan is required to obtain the Aadhar card. This is no fingerprint and no eye scan work is allowed only for children under 5 years old.
The UIDAI said that a child below five years of age can get a blue colored child Aadhaar card. However, the biometric update is mandatory after the children turn five years old. It is said that if the child is less than 5 years of age, one of the parents or guardians will have to attest on behalf of the child. The UIDAI said that if the child is an NRI, a valid Indian passport of the child is mandatory as a proof of identity. Further, as applicable, if the child is an Indian resident, then any valid proof of the parent or guardian’s linkage documents like birth certificate with Aadhaar can be used for enrollment.
If the child is between the ages of 5 to 18 years, one of the parents or guardians must consent to the enrollment of the minor by signing the enrollment form.
