Kuwait has taken a big step to solve the demographic imbalance problem. According to the Indian government, about 10 lakh people from India live in Kuwait. This is the highest compared to other countries.

Kuwait, an important country for Indian workers and professionals, has made a big change for foreign workers. Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has allowed part-time jobs for expatriate workers in the private sector.

The largest number of Indian expatriates live in Kuwait. The total population of Kuwait is about 46 lakh, of which only about 35 lakh are foreigners. That means 75 percent of the total population of Kuwait are expatriates, in which the highest number of Indians is around 10 lakh.

Trying to solve demographic imbalance

According to Kuwait’s news website Arab News, Kuwait has allowed private sector expatriate employees to do part-time jobs on the condition that they first have to obtain permission from the company they are working for to do part-time jobs. Kuwait has taken this step under the provision of the Council of Ministers to solve the demographic imbalance problem.

The report further states that private sector employees can now do part-time jobs with any other company for a maximum of four hours per day. For this they will need a permit from the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM). The purpose of this decision is to take advantage of skills and experience under the option of guaranteeing rights on recruitment. This will also help in bridging the demographic imbalance in Kuwait and meeting the needs of the labor market. This decision will be effective from the beginning of January 2024.

Emphasis on giving work form home also

Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister Al-Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has also instructed the Public Authority for Manpower that if the employees are completing the work without coming to the office, then the companies should allow some of their employees to do remote work i.e. from home. Also allow work. The objective of these decisions and instructions is to support companies and develop technology in the private sector, so that the working environment can be improved.
