Toll tax: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has put on hold its decision to increase toll tax rates from April 1. This is a temporary stop. Now the rates which were supposed to increase from 12 midnight on April 1 will not increase. Toll tax will have to be paid at the current rates applicable for the financial year 2023-24. NHAI had increased the toll tax for light vehicles like cars, jeeps, vans from Rs 5 to Rs 55 at toll plazas around Kanpur. Now these increased rates will not be applicable.

Toll rates change every year

NHAI implements revised rates of toll tax every year at its toll plazas. Along with the inflation rate, it also includes the cost of repairs done on highways, widening of highways and construction of new highways. Due to six-lane construction of Kanpur-Prayagraj Highway, the toll plazas of Fatehpur, Barauri and Katoghan, were being increased by Rs 55 and Rs 40 respectively. Whereas after the construction of Kanpur-Aligarh Highway, the toll at Nawada Kanthi toll plaza of Shivrajpur was to be increased by Rs 5 from April 1 and by Rs 35 from April 15.

Kanpur NHAI Project Manager Prashant Dubey said, NHAI Headquarters has banned the collection of revised toll tax rates from April 1 with immediate effect. Toll fees will be charged at the existing rates for the financial year 2023-24.
