The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given its historic approval to teach engineering in eight Indian languages including Hindi from the new academic session. In future it will be increased to 11 languages. Currently, the Indian languages in which engineering is allowed to teach include Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada and Malayalam besides Hindi.

Let me tell you here that the initiative which is being done in India now is already present in many countries of the world. There are many countries including Japan, Russia, China, Germany, where to do any course, it is necessary to learn the language there first. In these countries, they are studied in the same language. But, where the same languages are spoken in these countries, different languages are spoken in India.

AICTE Chairman Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe has admitted that the decision currently taken has been taken as an initiative to carry forward the recommendations of the new National Education Policy. Although this decision has been taken for eight languages, but in future, engineering will be taught in 11 languages. According to him, 14 engineering colleges have so far sought permission to pursue engineering in five languages, including Hindi.

The work of preparing its syllabus in all these languages has started. For this, the help of software is being taken. This software can translate into 22 Indian languages. With the help of this, the first year course is being prepared. According to him, engineering is already being taught in Hindi in some institutes for many years.

It is important to note that keeping in mind the international level in India, engineering studies have been conducted in English. But after the new decision of AICTE, it will be revolutionized in many ways. This will not only increase regional languages, but will also make Hindi more prosperous. Let us also tell you here that there was a demand for this for a long time that there should be an option to take engineering studies in Hindi also. Now this option will be available. Let us also tell you here that in the new National Education Policy of India, emphasis has been laid on studying in the local Indian languages. The present decision is a result of this.

The most benefit of the current decision will be seen in rural areas. It is often seen that children in rural areas fall behind only because they do not have good English. But now they too will be able to study higher education like engineering in their local language. This will give them many opportunities to move forward. After this decision, they will lose their obligation to know English.
