FSSAI has made it mandatory for food business operators to enter the FSSAI license number or registration number in the bill from October 1.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made it mandatory for food business operators to enter the FSSAI license number or registration number in the bill from October 1. FSSAI has issued a fresh order in this regard. The move will help those consumers who can register a complaint online against a particular food business using the FSSAI number.
The Food Safety Regulator issued an order on Thursday saying, every food business operator is required to obtain an FSSAI license or registration before starting a food business. The ecosystem of food business is huge and the FSSAI number of any food business is not easily visible to the consumers. Any credible regulatory framework depends on a robust customer complaints system. However, if the FSSAI number is not available with them, then filing a complaint against them becomes a daunting task.
The FSSAI order said that the licensing and registration officers have been directed to give wide publicity to the policy and ensure its implementation from October 2, 2021.
Please note that it is mandatory to display the FSSAI number on the packaged food label, but this problem is especially necessary for establishments like restaurants, sweet shops, caterers even retail stores.
14 digit FSSAI number
The 14 digit FSSAI number of any Food Business Operator is not easily visible or available on the consumer/service receipt. Because of this, it becomes difficult for them to complain to any food business operator. Even for the regulators, it is difficult to trace the origin of the complaint and act immediately.
