NPS employees will get more money, pension department made a big announcement

The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has announced the benefit of Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) after retirement to the Central Government civilian employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS).

Central Govt Pensioners News: If you are a civilian employee of the Central Government and come under the National Pension System (NPS), then there is a good news for you. Actually, the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare (DoPPW) has announced that NPS employees will get Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) after retirement. This information has been given through an official order. New forms have been added in this order, as well as the process of payment has also been clarified. Apart from this, it has been made mandatory to submit a life certificate to continue the allowance.

What is Fixed Medical Allowance?

Fixed Medical Allowance is a kind of monthly allowance given to retired central government pensioners. It is for those who live in areas where Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facility is not available. This will help these employees to meet their basic medical needs.

Who is eligible for FMA?

Retired central government employees covered under NPS can avail the benefit of Fixed Medical Allowance. However, they must be eligible for Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) but they must live outside the areas covered under it. They either do not get any CGHS benefits or only use in-patient department services.

Amount fixed for FMA

The FMA rate for NPS retired employees has been fixed at Rs 1000 per month, which is the same as those under the old pension scheme. It will be mandatory for retired central employees to submit a life certificate to ensure that the pensioner is alive and eligible to get benefits. A life certificate is a document that confirms that the pensioner is alive. Pension agencies usually require a life certificate, also known as Jeevan Pramaan, for pensioners to continue their pension.

For this, you can submit your life certificate digitally through the Jeevan Pramaan portal using Aadhaar card and biometrics. The special thing is that if an employee does not submit his life certificate, his FMA payment will be stopped.
