OBC Certificate: A PIL was filed by the Division Bench of Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajshekhar Mantha in the Calcutta High Court, in which questions were raised on the process of issuing OBC certificates.

OBC Certificate: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday (22 May) has given a big blow to the Mamata government of West Bengal. The High Court has decided to cancel about 5 lakh OBC certificates issued since 2011. Now OBC certificate will not be accepted even in job applications.

During the hearing on a petition, Calcutta High Court has given a big decision. According to this decision, the High Court has ordered the cancellation of all Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates issued since 2011. Let us tell you that many far-reaching effects of this decision can be seen.

What did the High Court say in the order?

The division bench of Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajshekhar Mantha in the Calcutta High Court gave this decision on Wednesday while hearing a PIL. In this PIL, questions were raised on the process of issuing OBC certificates. In this case, the court gave instructions and said that OBC certificates should be made only according to the procedures prescribed by the West Bengal Backward Commission formed under the 1993 Act.

Big blow to appeasement politics- BJP

After the High Court’s decision, BJP leader Amit Malviya reacted by posting on social media platform X. He said, “Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement politics has received another blow.” Calcutta High Court has ended the reservation of Muslims in the OBC sub-category. Along with this, the High Court has also canceled all the OBC certificates issued between 2010 and 2024. During this period, if the people who have been admitted are successful in retaining their jobs, they will not be entitled to any other benefits.
