Actually, the Union Ministry of Personnel (DPPW) has issued an office memorandum regarding this. It is clearly said that if you want old pension then it has to be selected.
Taking an important decision, the government has agreed that central employees should get the option to transfer to the old pension scheme (OPS). This will apply to those employees who applied for the jobs advertised before December 22, 2003, the day the National Pension System (NPS) came into force. But, the last date to apply for this is 31 August 2023.
Demand has been happening for a long time
After the letter issued by Sanjeev Narayan, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Personnel, the Personnel Department of Uttar Pradesh has started work on it. Let us tell you, the New Pension System (NPS) was started for government employees in the country from January 2004 by abolishing the old pension. Under NPS, 10% is deducted from the salary of the employee.
GPF facility is there in the old pension, but it has not been kept in the new pension. For a long time, the employees of the state and the center have been demanding to restore the old pension. It has been restored in some states. In view of this reason, the Union Ministry of Personnel has given a chance to the central employees that they too can become eligible.
Preparation started in Uttar Pradesh
On the instructions of the Center, the Personnel Department of Uttar Pradesh has given the option to select the option till August 31, 2023, to those who come under its ambit. In a letter issued by the Ministry of Personnel, it was told that under the advertisement issued for government recruitment till December 22, 2003, continuous applications are being received for giving old pension to those recruited after January 2004.
That’s why it has been considered to give the benefit of old pension to the officers and employees who got jobs on the basis of advertisement till 2003. After this its option has been given. If someone wants to enroll himself under old pension, then he has to select its option.
If you do not choose the option, you will be left empty handed.
Employees who do not select the option till August 31 will get the benefit under NPS only. And if an employee chooses the old pension option, then by October 31, 2023, his NPS account will be closed and the old pension will be restored.
