The Punjab government is not going to take any decision regarding the old pension scheme for the next two months. For this, the Punjab government has decided that a study team will be sent to four states to replace the old pension scheme with the new pension scheme. According to the news of ‘ABP Sanjha’, this study team will understand the old pension scheme system and SOP implemented in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh and prepare the process of their implementation in Punjab.
Government can take a big decision in July
Apart from this, the study team has also been asked to contact the Pension Department of Delhi Government to understand the changes made in the pension scheme implemented there. After that it will be considered to implement these changes in Punjab as well. After studying the old pension scheme implemented in all these states and the new pension scheme implemented with some changes, the study team will submit its report in two months. The government is expected to get this report by June 30. After that, the Punjab government will take a decision on implementing this report in July.
The money of these employees is being deposited in NPS
The Punjab government is currently depositing the money of 1.75 lakh employees in NPS. These employees have been recruited after the NPS scheme implemented since 2002. When retirement starts after 2031, they will get the benefit of NPS and all other employees will get the benefit of old pension scheme. According to the current process, after 2031 the burden of OPS on the government will be reduced, but if the government reopens the OPS. If this is adopted, the government will have to increase the allocation from the budget every year for the pension fund.
Government is adopting this path
The government has deposited Rs 16,746 crore with the Pension and Regulatory and Development Authority of the Government of India till 2022 for extending the benefits of NPS in the last two decades. This money has now crossed 17 thousand crore rupees. In NPS, the government is giving about 1 thousand crore rupees every year. The government had also demanded the return of this fund, which the Center has refused to give. The Punjab government can use this corpus of Rs 17,000 crore as a corpus fund for OPS.
