OnePlus 9R: OnePlus 9 series smartphone, which the company has launched only for India. With this phone, the company is targeting such OnePlus users who cannot afford OnePlus 9 series.
OnePlus has recently launched three smartphones in India. OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9R. Two of these smartphones have also been launched in other countries, but OnePlus 9R has been launched only in India.
We have already reviewed OnePlus 9 Pro . Now it’s the OnePlus 9R. The company is also promoting this smartphone as a gaming phone. In this review, we will know how this phone actually performs.
OnePlus 9R: Design and Build Quality
The design of the OnePlus 9R is similar to the OnePlus 9 series. However, some changes will definitely be found here. As soon as you hold the phone, you will first get an idea that this phone is very compact.
You will be able to use this phone comfortably with one hand. Build quality is solid and this phone looks premium. The back panel is curved which is a good grip to hold.
The design of the camera module is the same as OnePlus 9, although Hasselblad will not be written here, as the company has not tied up with Hasselblad for this phone.
Talking about the front, here you get a flat display around which thin bezels will be seen. There is a cutout in the top right side which is for the selfie camera. Apart from this, the right has a home button, slider and the left has volume rocker keys.
The bottom of the phone has a USB Type C port, speaker grill and SIM tray. You will not get a headphone jack in this phone. Overall the design of this phone is good and this phone is not too heavy. The frame is aluminum and it is 8.4mm thick.
OnePlus 9R: display
OnePlus 9R has a 6.55 inch Fluid AMOLED display. It also has a refresh rate of 120Hz and the good thing is that here you also have the support of HDR 10+. The OTT platform, where HDR content is available, will get a different experience on this phone.
The display is sufficiently bright and colorful and performs well in the outdoors. You will be able to see it even in direct sunlight and the viewing angle is also good. Due to the high refresh rate and fluid amoled, the display will give a smooth and premium feel when used.
In this phone, these display fingerprint scanners have been given, which is in the right place, that is, there is not much in the bottom. The under display fingerprint scanner in OnePlus 9 Pro is quite low, which is a bit strange, because you have to move the thumb down to unlock. This is not the problem with OnePlus 9R.
OnePlus 9R: Performance and Software
Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset has been given in OnePlus 9R. This processor is below the Snadpraon 888. This phone will get support for up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Micro SD card support will not be available.
OnePlus 9R may not have Qualcomm’s current flagship processor, but it will not disappoint in terms of performance. Especially in performing daily tasks. There is absolutely no problem of lag or hang in the phone.
OnePlus 9R has Android 11 based OxygenOS 11.2. One beauty of One Plus is its operating system which gives almost the feel of stock Android, but there is no lack of customization in it. You will not find much bloatware in it either.
Switching from one app to another is quite fast, multi tasking is also easy and fast. Even if many applications are running in the background, there is no problem.
Talk about the customization option, from the themes to icons in the software, you can give your own shape. Apart from this, Always On Display can also be customized by making it better.
Talking about gaming, Pro Gaming Mode has also been given in it. Actually, it restricts background applications so that calls or any notifications are not able to disturb you during gaming.
This phone performs well in gaming too, although I have not played much with it. The good thing is that this phone does not overheating. This is probably also because the company has installed a multi-layer cooling system in it.
We do not see any problem in the overall performance of OnePlus 9R.
OnePlus 9R: Camera
The camera setup in OnePlus 9R is similar to OnePlus 8T. In the rear here you get four cameras. The primary lens is 48 megapixels. Here is the Sony IMX586 sensor. The second is a 16 megapixel ultra wide lens. There is a 5 megapixel macro lens and a 2 megapixel monochrome lens.
The company needed to provide a telephoto lens here, instead of a macro lens or a telephoto lens instead of monochrome.
However, in the camera, you have been given optical image stabilization, electronic image stabilization. For the selfie, it has a 16-megapixel front camera.
To enable 48 megapixels, you have to enable it by going to the camera interface, by default it is on 12 megapixel mode.
The primary camera of the phone performs well. Outdoor photography is good and enough details are also seen in photos. Colors look accurate in the clicked photos, not a case of artificial or over saturation.
The camera performs well even in the indoor, but at times the photos will not be as good as you would expect.
One problem with the camera app is that whether you are using the front camera or the rear camera. You will have to give some time by clicking the photo. If you click the photo and move your hand in one stroke, the photo will not come right. This problem is of software, of hardware or of some feature. Don’t know But this is a problem.
Many photos are also good to click in low light. But don’t expect much from ultra wide lenses. Talking about the night mode, it also works decent. Even in night mode, ultra wide angle does not perform as well. The macro lens is fine and serves its purpose and is monochrome in the same way. Generally monochrome and macro lenses are rarely used.
Overall the camera performance of this phone will not disappoint you. Because the photos are definitely good. There are also some problems about which we have highlighted above.
OnePlus 9R: Battery Backup
OnePlus 9R has a battery of 4,500mAh. It has 65W fast charge support. It takes a little less than an hour to fully charge it with the charger provided with it.
The phone will run at high refresh rate i.e. 120Hz and in mixed use this phone will give a full day battery backup. Talking about gaming, mixed use includes some gaming. The phone uses less and will keep it at 60Hz, then you will be able to run it for more than 1 day.
OnePlus 9R: Bottom Line
OnePlus 9R is a premium smartphone. In terms of look and feel, this 2021 smartphone definitely seems. The design is good, the display is superb. Overall performance is also top class and smooth. The camera cannot be called the best of this segment. But it is good.
You do not get support for wireless charging in this phone nor is it water proof. This phone is also like OnePlus 8T in many respects. It can be called the upgraded OnePlus 8T. Charging is fast, battery backup is also fine.
Since OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are expensive smartphones in India, so if the OnePlus 9 series phone is needed at a lower price then it is for you and the company understands it well.
