If PAN becomes inoperative, you may face problems in carrying out financial transactions such as opening a bank account, investing and filing income tax.
PAN Aadhaar Link: The government has made it mandatory to link all Permanent Account Numbers (PAN) with Aadhaar by December 31, 2024. If this is not done by December 31, 2024, your PAN card will become inoperative. If the PAN card becomes inoperative, you may face difficulties in making financial transactions and taxpayers may face difficulties in filing taxes.
Through this order, the government aims to prevent misuse of the user’s personal information so that they can be protected from financial fraud. Let’s know how you can link your Aadhaar to your PAN card:
Before starting the process of linking Aadhaar to your PAN, make sure that you have these three things:
- A valid PAN card
- Your Aadhaar number
- A registered mobile number for OTP verification
Now follow the steps given below to link your Aadhaar with PAN
Step 1. Go to e-filing portal
First of all go to the official income tax e-filing portal [https://incometax.gov.in]. Then click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option available in the Quick Links section on the homepage. Another way is to log in to your account and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ tab in the profile section.
Step 2. Enter PAN and Aadhaar details
Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the designated field. After entering the number, make sure that the details you have provided match exactly with the information on both your Aadhaar and PAN card.
Step 3. OTP Verification
After entering the required details, you will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar. Enter that OTP and click on “Validate” to complete the verification process.
Step 4. Linking Confirmation
Once your Aadhaar and PAN are successfully linked, a confirmation message will appear on the screen. If there are any discrepancies or errors, you may need to resolve them before proceeding further.
What to do if you face problems in linking?
If your Aadhaar and PAN are already linked or there is an issue in your Aadhaar data, the system will inform you through a pop-up message. In such cases, you may need to contact the Income Tax Department for assistance or resolve the issue through the UIDAI portal.
Check Status
After completing the process of linking PAN with Aadhaar, you can check the linking status by visiting the e-filing portal again. For this, select the option of “Link Aadhaar Status” available in the Quick Link section and then enter your details to verify whether the process of linking Aadhaar with PAN was successful or not.
By following all these steps mentioned above, you can easily link your PAN with Aadhaar. But keep in mind to complete this work before the deadline ends, otherwise your PAN will become inoperative.
If your PAN becomes inoperative, you may face problems in carrying out financial transactions such as opening a bank account, investing and filing income tax. So, do these important tasks before the last date.
