CBDT has deactivated 11.5 crore PANs due to not being linked to Aadhaar. If PAN card is inactivated, you will not be able to do transactions of more than Rs 50,000.

PAN Cards: 11.5 crore PANs which are not linked to Aadhaar have been deactivated by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). ‘The Hindu’ report said that this information has been provided by the CBDT. It is given in response to a question asked in an RTI.

Let us tell you, the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar was June 30. All those people whose PAN cards were issued before July 1, 2017. They had to link their PAN with Aadhaar. All PANs issued after July 1, 2017 are automatically linked to Aadhaar.

How many PAN card holders are there?

In the report, quoting the reply received from CBDT to RTI activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur, it was told that there are 70.24 crore PAN holders in India. Out of this, PAN of 57.25 crores are linked to Aadhaar. 11.5 crore PAN cards have been deactivated due to not being linked to Aadhaar.

PAN can be reactivated by depositing a fine of Rs 1000 again. Let us tell you, financial transactions of Rs 50,000 or more can be done if the PAN card is deactivated. Apart from this, you may face difficulty in filling ITR.

How to check whether PAN card is active or not?

  • You can also easily check whether your PAN card is active or not.
  • For this, first of all you have to go to the Income Tax website.
  • Then you have to click on ‘Verify Your PAN’.
  • Here you have to enter PAN, name, date of birth, mobile number etc.
  • After this click on ‘Continue’.
  • Now the status of PAN will appear on your screen.
