Passport Application: Whether you are going abroad for a holiday or for some work, it is important for you to have an updated passport. Not having a passport is becoming a big problem these days. With the increase in travel and tourism, opportunities for international jobs have opened up, so one should always be prepared to go abroad. As far as passport is concerned, many types of travel documents can be arranged for going abroad from India.

Ordinary passport i.e. the blue colored booklet available is for common citizens. After this a diplomatic passport is made. Indian diplomats and government officials i.e. IAS rank and IPS rank people use this passport. Diplomatic passport is maroon in colour. After this comes the official passport which is white in colour. If there is a government official or a person representing the government and he goes abroad for any official or government work, then he uses a white passport.

Apart from this, Emergency Certificate and Certificate of Identity can also be used by the government to go abroad. If you do not have a passport and there is an emergency, then this type of certificate can be used.

How to fill passport form online?

  • Whether getting a new passport or renewing an old passport, the steps are the same in both the cases.
  • First of all you have to create your ID in Passport Seva Portal. If your ID is already created, then log in on the same, but if not, then you will have to do a new registration.
  • Nowadays, passport form is being filled online, hence many people are getting this work done through agents also. Don’t do this and fill the form yourself.

  • After registering in the Passport Seva Portal, you will see the home page in which you have to click on the ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/ Re-issue of Passport’ option.
  • After this an e-form will appear in front of you. This e-form will have about 5-6 pages and every time you have to fill the details in a window and click on the Validate and Save button.
  • This is so that once you fill the form, your details remain saved. In such a situation, even if the window is closed at any step, the details before that will still be saved.
  • After filling all the details, your application will be submitted on the last page. You should keep in mind that all the details in your application should be as per your identity card.

Take an appointment to get a passport

Once you have filled the passport form online, you will have to go to the Passport Seva Kendra and get your biometric verification done.

  • You would have been given an option in the Passport Seva portal itself in which “Pay and Schedule Appointment” would be written. Click on this option.
  • After this, first of all locate your nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
  • After this select it and you will see many date options.
  • You will see only those dates in which the slot is vacant.
  • After this you choose your date and now comes the turn of passport fees.
  • Rs 1500 has to be paid for a 30 page booklet and Rs 2000 for a 60 page booklet.
  • You can pay the fees through online payment, credit or debit card payment, internet banking or SBI challan.
  • Once you get an appointment, you will get an Application Reference Number (ARN).
  • On the day your appointment is booked, go with all your identity proofs and get your biometric verification done.

Once the biometrics is complete, there will be a police verification to check whether your name and address are correct in all your documents and whether you reside at your stated address or not.

After completion of all this process, your passport will be printed within 15 days. While filling the passport form, keep in mind that all the details in your document should be same. If it is different, the passport application will be rejected. In passport verification, not only Aadhar card is required, but three identity proofs are required which include 10th mark sheet, voter ID, driving license etc.
