Using DigiLocker, applicants will be able to submit their passport application online after the documents are uploaded through the official website www.passportindia.gov.in. It is to be noted that passport applicants are advised to create a DigiLocker account at the time of submission of their applications if they use Aadhaar for verification purposes.
No hard copy needed
To ease the process, the Ministry of External Affairs said that if applicants use DigiLocker to upload their documents, they will not be required to carry hard copies of any documents during the application process. This will help in reducing the overall processing time, which is expected to enhance the quality of passport application process.
Process will be faster
The ministry has urged the applicants to use the DigiLocker service and help in expediting the process. According to reports, DigiLocker has been introduced in the passport application process not only to speed up the application process but also to make it efficient. Along with this, Passport Seva Kendra and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) have been set up in various areas across the country to reduce the need for physical document verification.
What is DigiLocker?
It is a digital wallet service launched by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information. With this, users will be able to collect and keep all their important documents issued by the government in a safe manner. Through this, users will be able to access driving license, mark sheet, vehicle registration certificate and other necessary documents whenever and wherever it is required.

Since any type of document can be stored in it, you will get the freedom not to carry your important documents in hard copy.
