The government said that the online portal for passport applications will remain closed for the next five days due to maintenance process. During this time no new appointments can be scheduled. Along with this, the appointments already booked will be rescheduled.
Note issued on Passport Seva Portal
A note issued on the Passport Seva Portal said, ‘The Passport Seva Portal will be closed for technical maintenance from 8 pm on Thursday, 29 August 2024 to 6 am on Monday, 2 September. The system will not be available for this citizens and all MEA/RPO/BOI/ISP/DoP/Police officials. Appointments already booked for 30 August 2024 will be rescheduled. This will be informed to the applicants in advance.’
What did the Ministry of External Affairs say?
In the case, the Ministry of External Affairs said that this is a common and regular process. We always have a surprise plan to reschedule the appointment. Maintenance for public centric service (such as Passport Seva Kendra) is always planned in advance, so that the public does not face any inconvenience. Therefore, there will be no problem in rescheduling the appointment.
How does the Passport Seva Portal work?
Applying for a new passport or renewing a passport is done through the Passport Seva Portal. Appointments are booked at centers across the country on this. Appointment is taken after applying. On the day of appointment, applicants have to reach the passport centers. Here they submit their documents for verification. After this, police verification takes place and then the passport reaches the applicant’s address. Applicants can opt for the regular mode, in which the passport reaches the applicant in 30-45 working days. Apart from this, there is also an option of instant mode, in which it is available to the applicant in a few days.
