Pension Schem: A big announcement has been made regarding your pension. Now you can be entitled to a pension of Rs 20,000 every month. The Odisha government has announced a pension of Rs 20,000 every month for those who went to jail during the Emergency. According to a notification from the State Home Department, along with the pension (Pension News), the state government will also bear the medical expenses of all those who went to jail during the Emergency.
These people will get pension
The government has also said that all those people who are alive till January 1, 2025 will get the benefit. During the Emergency from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977, when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, hundreds of people were imprisoned in different jails across the country for protesting.
The government formed committees
The government has formed state level and district level committees for the selection of beneficiaries. In a meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrat Sahu, a detailed list of people imprisoned in the state was discussed.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced the provision of monthly pension for those arrested and imprisoned during the Emergency under the Internal Security Act, Defense of India Rules or Defense and Maintenance of Internal Security Rules of India.
You can also avail free medical treatment
The notification states that pension will be sanctioned in favour of surviving persons (who are alive as on January 1, 2025) regardless of the period of detention in jail. It states that they can also avail free medical treatment in accordance with the provisions of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Interacting with the District Magistrate and SP in virtual mode, Sahu told them that the beneficiaries will have to submit an application in the prescribed format to the Collector and District Magistrate along with the documents and the names of three key co-inmates and an affidavit in their support.
