All pensioners have to give life certificate every year to get pension. Submitting the life certificate means that you are alive. There are approximately 69.76 lakh pensioners of the Central Government. The government has said in the order that Digital Life Certificate can be submitted through Face Authentication technology.
Life Certificate of Pensioners: The Center has asked all pension paying banks to provide doorstep service to bed-ridden and hospitalized pensioners for submission of Life Certificate. In an order issued by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW), all banks have been asked to submit life certificates digitally using face authentication technology for super senior citizens i.e. those above 80 years of age.

All pensioners have to submit life certificate annually to get pension. Submitting the life certificate means that you are alive. There are approximately 69.76 lakh pensioners of the Central Government. The order dated September 25 states that Digital Life Certificate can be submitted through Face Authentication technology. Now it will be possible for every citizen to submit Digital Life Certificate from home using Android smartphone or at the bank branch.
Instructions have been given to the bank
It has also been said in the government order that banks can use social media platforms to create awareness about the facility of obtaining life certificate using face authentication technology. The service of submitting life certificate can be provided by appointing bank doorstep banking officers. It has been said that they can also do publicity by pasting information on posters at bank branches and ATMs.
Banks can send the link of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to pensioners through SMS, email or WhatsApp message. So that, super senior pensioners can do face authentication using their Android phones and submit their life certificate through this technology. DoPPW has also asked banks to popularize submission of life certificate through face authentication through email among their respective officials.
According to the government order, necessary instructions may be issued to all bank branches to make suitable arrangements for submission of life certificates of super senior pensioners or family pensioners aged 80 years and above from 1st October every year. The Center had in 2019 asked banks to allow senior pensioners aged 80 years and above to submit their life certificates from October 1 every year instead of November. The remaining pensioners below 80 years of age will have to submit their life certificate in November.
