Linking of Aadhaar with PAN is a basic KYC requirement for all banks, PPF accounts and EFP accounts.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar card with PF UAN to receive contributions from employers. EPF subscribers need to link their Aadhar card with Provident Fund (PF) account to get the PF amount. The Ministry of Labor amended Section 142 of the Social Security Code 2020 to implement this new rule. Under this section, the identity of an employee, an unorganized employee or any other person is established through Aadhaar number for availing benefits and availing services. It is mandatory to link Aadhaar with UAN. That is, now employers will not be able to send PF grant for those cases where such linking is not done. EPFO has issued a notification, under which it is now the responsibility of the employer to ensure that their employees link their provident fund account with their Aadhaar number.
Earlier the deadline for linking Aadhar card with PF UAN was June 1. It was postponed till September 1 to give more time to the subscribers. The retirement body had said that the employer can file ECR (Electronic Challan cum Receipt or PF Return) only for those employees who have linked their Aadhaar with PF UAN. As for ECR for non-Aadhaar seeded UAN, the retirement body said it can be filed after the completion of Aadhaar seeding process.
If your Aadhar card is not linked with PF UAN, you may also lose out on other EPF benefits, including the COVID-19 advance announced last month and insurance benefits linked to PF accounts. Linking of Aadhaar with PAN is a basic KYC requirement for all banks, PPF accounts and EFP accounts. If this is not done, the customers will face issues of interest credit and withdrawal claims etc.
