Platform ticket sales will be stopped at Delhi railway stations till November 6, know why such a decision was taken

In order to reduce the rush of passengers at railway stations during this festive season, the sale of platform tickets has been temporarily banned at major stations in Delhi.

Platform Tickets Update: To reduce the rush of passengers at railway stations during the festive season, the sale of platform tickets has been temporarily banned at major stations in Delhi. This step has been taken in the wake of 10 people getting injured while trying to board an unreserved train to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus.

Northern Railway has said that in view of the heavy rush of passengers going to their homes for Diwali and Chhath Puja, platform tickets will not be sold at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar and Delhi Sarai Rohilla railway stations till November 6.

According to a report by India Today, the sale of platform tickets will also remain prohibited at Ghaziabad Junction railway station till November 6. However, Northern Railway has said that people coming to the station to help elderly, uneducated and women passengers are exempted from this ban.

Special crowd management and control measures implemented at railway stations

Northern Railway has announced to implement special crowd management and control measures at New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations till November 7 in view of the upcoming festive season.

Northern Railway said in a statement, “In view of the high number of passengers expected during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, the Delhi division of Northern Railway has implemented special crowd management and control measures at New Delhi Railway Station and Anand Vihar till November 7.”

A holding area has been created at New Delhi station (towards Ajmeri Gate) and Anand Vihar station, with additional ticket counters, automatic ticket vending machines, enquiry counters, ‘Can I help you’ desks, catering services, drinking water and mobile toilets to enhance passenger convenience.

Delhi Railway Division has temporarily closed the direct access from the Delhi Metro Skywalk to the foot overbridge connecting the two stations during this period.

Besides, some trains like Bihar Sampark Kranti (12566), Sampoorna Kranti (12394), Vaishali Express (12554) and Purushottam Express (12802) have been temporarily shifted to specific platforms for better crowd control.

The Northern Railway has urged passengers to reach the station at least one hour before the scheduled departure of their train to avoid last-minute rush and ensure smooth boarding process.

It said, “Follow the signage placed in the circulating area on Ajmeri Gate side. Assistance is available at ‘Can I help you’ counters or from railway staff deployed across the area to facilitate a comfortable journey. We request passengers to follow these temporary measures and thank them for their cooperation.”
