New Delhi: The central government is running PM Fasal Bima Yojana to compensate farmers for crop loss. Farmers have been asked to register before July 31, 2023, to compensate for damage caused to crops due to storms and rains in the months of May, June and July. Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, insurance cover is available from before sowing and till after harvesting.
The objective of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is to provide financial assistance to the farmers suffering from crop loss due to natural calamities. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was started in January 2016. This plan protects against losses due to unseasonal rains, drought and other natural or local calamities. Under the scheme, crop damage is compensated before sowing, standing crop or 14 days after harvesting.
Under PM Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers have to pay 2 per cent of the sum insured for Kharif crops, 1.5 per cent for Rabi crops and a maximum of 5 per cent premium for commercial and horticultural crops. Under the Crop Insurance Scheme, farmers are informed within 72 hours of crop damage. Under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, 18 insurance companies, 1.7 lakh bank branches and 44000 common service centers are providing services to benefit 27 states and union territories.
Farmers can take advantage of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to compensate for crop loss. For this, he can apply online and offline. Farmers can register through National Crop Insurance Portal http://pmfby.gov.in. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, to take advantage of the Crop Insurance Scheme, farmers must register on the official website http://pmfby.gov.in by 31 July 2023.
