Pradhan Mantri Kusum Scheme: The Kusum scheme of the central government is proving to be a profitable deal for the farmers. Through this scheme, farmers can irrigate their fields by installing solar equipment, as well as making additional electricity, sending it to the grid and earning it. Let us know what is the Kusum scheme and what are the benefits of it.

The Modi government of the Center had announced the Kusum Yojana or Farmer Energy Security and Upliftment Campaign during the 2018-19 General Budget. This scheme was started to increase the income of farmers and to run all the diesel or electric pumps used for irrigation in agricultural areas with solar energy. This ambitious scheme got administrative approval only in March 2019, after which guidelines related to it were also prepared in July 2019. Let us know all the important things related to the Kusum scheme.

What is Kusum Yojana

Significantly, farmers across the country often face a lot of difficulties during irrigation in the fields. Sometimes more rain and sometimes less rain also causes a lot of damage to the crops of the farmers. To overcome this problem of the farmers, only the Kusum scheme was brought by the Modi government of the center through which the farmer can irrigate the fields by putting solar energy equipment and pumps in his land. With the help of this scheme, the farmer can put solar panels on his land and use the electricity generated from it in agriculture. Also, 24 hours supply of electricity can be possible in the villages of the country also due to the electricity being generated on the land of the farmer.

PM Kusum Yojana has three components.

PM Kusum Yojana has three components. 10,000 MW grid connected decentralized renewable power plant. Solarization of 17.50 lakh grid-separated solar power agricultural pumps and 10 lakh solar power agricultural pumps connected to the grid. Under the plan, a total of 25,750 MW of solar capacity is planned to be built by 2022 by combining these three components. Under the Kusum scheme, banks provide 30% of the amount as loan to the farmers. At the same time, the government gives 60% of the total cost of solar pump to the farmers as subsidy.

Farmers are benefiting from Kusum scheme

The farmers are benefiting from the Central Government’s Kusum scheme in two ways. The first advantage is that farmers are using free electricity for irrigation in the fields. The other advantage is that if farmers make additional electricity and send it to the grid, then they also earn in return. That is, the income of farmers is also increasing through this scheme. Not only this, farmers with barren land can also use their land to produce solar energy. That is, barren land is also becoming a source of income for farmers.
