DHFL promoters Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan and have filed a fraud case against the company. These people had created a fake branch of DHFL in Bandra and created a home loan account of Rs 14,046 crore.
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of fraud against DHFL and its directors for allegedly opening 2.60 lakh fake home loan accounts. While giving this information on Wednesday, the officials said that some of these accounts were created to take interest subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). These financial lapses have been revealed in the report of Grant Thornton, appointed by the current board of directors of DHFL, involved in the scam.

A case of fraud has been registered against the promoters of DHFL, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhavan and the company. These people allegedly created a fake branch of DHFL in Bandra and created a housing loan account of Rs 14,046 crore. These customers had already repaid their home loan. These accounts were added to the database.

The FIR registered in this case states that 2.60 lakh fake home loan accounts worth Rs 14,046 crore were created during 2007 to 2019. These accounts were opened in a branch that did not exist. Of these, Rs 11,755.79 crore were transferred or deposited in many fake companies.
Many of these bogus accounts were allegedly opened in PMAY to claim interest subsidy from the National Housing Bank (NHB).
