INDORE: After failing to attract buyers, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is now going to make residential units constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) available on rent. The civic body, in view of managing maintenance cost of these units, is going to make as many as 168 flats constructed at Budhaniya area of the city available on rent.
IMC officials said that the residential units of Budhaniya area constructed under the PMAY scheme will be handed over to a private agency to rent out all the 168 flats. They claimed that the scheme of renting out flats is an initiative by the Central government and is being launched in Indore on a trial basis. “A private agency will be hired to run, maintain and collect rent from the tenants,” said IMC’s executive engineer Mahesh Sharma.
Sharma said that they have floated a tender inviting agencies willing to run the one bedroom, hall and kitchen (BHK) residential units of Budaniya. “We will hire an agency and make the units available,” he said.
