PMAY-U 2.0: The government has approved proposals for construction of about 3.53 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). Out of the new houses, more than 2.67 lakh houses have been approved for women only.
PMAY-U 2.0: The government has approved proposals for construction of about 3.53 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said on Friday that a total of 3,52,915 houses were approved under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) components of PMAY-Urban 2.0 in 10 states / union territories during the meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC). These 10 states / union territories are – Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
2.67 lakh houses approved for women
Of the new houses approved on Thursday under PMAY-Urban 2.0, more than 2.67 lakh houses have been approved for women only. This scheme promotes women empowerment. These include single women and widows. Also, 90 houses have been allotted to transgenders.
How many houses have been approved for Scheduled Castes, Tribes
Out of the total sanctioned houses, 80,850 houses have been sanctioned for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries, 15,928 for Scheduled Tribes and 2,12,603 houses for OBC category.
This additional benefit is being provided in Uttar Pradesh
In addition to the state share under PMAY-Urban 2.0, Uttar Pradesh is providing Rs 30,000 to each senior citizen beneficiary above 70 years of age and Rs 20,000 to each unmarried woman, widow and separately living female beneficiary above 40 years of age.
The ministry had launched the PMAY-Urban 2.0 ‘Housing for All’ mission for one crore additional eligible beneficiaries in urban areas across the country from September 1, 2024. According to the ministry, the PMAY-Urban 2.0 scheme will meet the housing needs of one crore urban poor and middle class families in five years, ensuring that every citizen can live a better standard of living.
The scheme was launched in June 2015
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban was first launched in June 2015. Under this scheme, 118.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned, while about 92 lakh houses have been constructed and distributed to the beneficiaries.
