Post Office: How to get ATM card and cheque book on Post Office Savings Bank Account, know the complete process

POSB Account Services: The account holder of the post office savings bank account will have to fill the form for ATM card and check book. Account holders should have PAN number, email address and mobile number to apply for ATM card services.

New Delhi: Post Office Savings Bank account holders of  ATM card can apply in RICT-CBS branch post offices and checkbook. To apply for ATM card services, account holders should have PAN number, email address and mobile number. The Department of Posts (DoP) has issued a circular in which it has explained the procedure to avail various post office savings account services. According to the circular of the Department of Posts, the procedure given below has to be followed for check book and ATM card.




Process to apply for ATM card:

  • To avail the ATM card facility, the account holder has to fill up the SB-ATMI form (ATM Card/Internet/Mobile/SMS Banking Service Request Form). Passbook has to be given along with the form.
  • GDS will verify the BPM form and issue SB-28 receipt to the account holder for the submitted passbook.
  • GDS BPM will send the SB-ATMI form along with a passbook to the concerned Account Office by entering it in the BO Journal/BO Daily Account.
  • After receipt of the SB-ATMI form along with the passbook at the account office, the Postmaster will check the form for the account holder’s eligibility for the ATM card.
  • If eligible, SPM will issue the ATM Card following the procedure prescribed for issuance of ATM Card.
  • After the issuance of the ATM card, the SPM will keep the SB-ATMI form in the guard file of the SB-ATMI form.
  • On the ATM Card Issuance Register, the SPM shall write and sign the BO’s name and the date of dispatch of the ATM Card.
  • SPM will send the ATM card and passbook to the concerned branch post office by entering it in the BO slip.
  • On receipt of the ATM Card and Passbook from the Account Office, GDS will hand over the ATM Card/Passbook to the BPM Depositor.

How to Apply for Check Book:

  • The customer can take the facility of check book while opening the savings account in the branch post office. Or he can also get this facility by filling the SB / CQE-4 form in the branch.
  • After filling this form and submitting the passbook, GDS will verify the BPM form and issue SB-28 receipt to the account holder for the submitted passbook.
  • Check book facility is not available for illiterate and minor account holders who cannot sign. GDS will check the BPM eligibility before sending the form to the account office.
  • GDS BPM will send the SB/CQE-4 form along with a passbook to the concerned account office by entering it in the BO Journal/BO Daily Account.



  • After receipt of the SB/CQE-4 form along with the passbook at the Account Office, the Account Office will scrutinize the form for eligibility of the account holder to receive the check book.
  • The SPM will issue the check book following the prescribed procedure.
  • In the register issuing the check book, the SPM shall write and sign the name of the BO and the date of dispatch of the check book to the BO.
  • SPM will send the check book and passbook to the concerned branch post office duly entered in the BO slip.
  • On receipt of the check book and passbook from the account office, the GDS branch postmaster will hand over the check book and passbook to the account holder.
